Maps Help
There are a number of ways that you may be accessing the Map system.
You may have followed the direct links from the USYDnet front page
or your MyUni page. Alternatively, you may have followed a link for
a specific building from another service such as the Calendar of Events
or Committees service.
Map front page
By using the keyword function, you can search for a building by
Building number, eg H08, by Building name, eg University Computing
Centre, or by Map reference eg T1. This will provide you with a
list, if there is more than one that meets your search criteria.
If the building is located on the Camperdown or Darlington campuses,
clicking on the building name will take you to a detailed map which
will give you coordinates to help you locate the building. For buildings
not on the Camperdown/Darlington campuses, clicking on the campus
link will take you to a large map of that campus.
Alternatively, you can get an overview of a campus by selecting
the campus name from the list provided. This will take you to a
page with a thumbnail view of the campus map. You can do a search
for buildings on this campus alone using the search box on this
page. Click on the map thumbnail for the large view of the campus
map.
Also on the Map front page, you can Browse buildings alphabetically,
by selecting a letter.
Campus Maps
The large map of a campus will allow you to view the whole campus
layout. At present the Camperdown/Darlington campuses have comprehensive
maps, this will eventually be extended to the other campuses.
You can click on a specific area of the large map for Camperdown/Darlington
to get the Map View page for that area.
For other campuses, you will either see a map indicating a regional
location, that is, either Inner City or Metropolitan, or there will
be a link to a large map of the campus you're after. Directions
to each campus are listed with each of the Campus Maps. Some campuses,
such as the Australian Archaeological Institute in Athens, or the
University Ski Hut, do not have maps available.
Map View page
The Map View page for the Camperdown/Darlington campuses provides
a detailed and navigational map, as well as a listing of all Buildings
(with Map Reference, Building Code, and Building Name) that appear
on that map. In addition, a listing of all the Departments (with
Building Code) that have their primary location on that map are
shown. The name of the Department links to their website, where
available.
A key showing the scale and describing each icon is provided on
each page.
The campus overview shows the relation of the Map View to the overall
campus. The position of the Map View is show as a transparent red
rectangle.
Navigating using the Map View page
The map system is designed around a grid structure, which allows
you to move around the entire campus from any Map View page.
Surrounding each map image are red and yellow bars which you can
click to move to the 'Next Map' in each direction. You can go left,
right, up or down using the red bars, the yellow bars allow you
to move diagonally.
When you have reached the end of the map system in any direction,
the text, 'Map Limit' will display on the relevant bar.
