Dropping a Unit of Study

Who is eligible?

  • Dropping the UoS you want to drop must be permitted by your faculty and course rules.
  • Students are not permitted to drop all their UoS via Web Enrolment Variation.
  • International students are normally required to maintain full-time attendance, although this may be waived in certain circumstances. Please contact your faculty.

How to drop a Unit of Study

  • Under the column 'Drop UoS', click on the window next to the UoS you wish to drop, and choose "Yes".
  • Click on "Save Changes" and a message appears:"Update of your degree has been completed successfully".
  • The UoS status now reads WITHDRAWN.

Common problems you may encounter

  • If dropping the UoS you are dropping is not permitted under your faculty rules, you will see an error message: "<Course Code> failed pre-requisite checking."
  • UoS can only be dropped up to the census dates: 31 March for the February semester and 31 August for the July semester.
  • After those dates, even if you don't take the UoS, you will incur a HECS liability for the UoS.
